A recent participant described attending the National Leadership Consortium’s Leadership Institute as “a rewarding opportunity to hear from progressive leaders in our field, showcase best practices, inspire possibilities and strategies for success.”

Another participant commented: “The George Braithwaite Award provided me with the opportunity to attend the National Leadership Consortium on Developmental Disabilities in 2019.  The week-long course was attended by a number of leaders in the developmental services sector from all over  North America.  The course is beneficial for people leading DS organizations as its curriculum includes: current service trends, research, values training, and financial and operational education.  Effective DS leaders not only have to advocate for inclusive, person centred and values based supports and services, they also have to have the business acumen required in maintaining financial stability of the organization.  Many of the speakers in the course were from organizations who spoke about the different initiatives that bore success within their respective organizations.  These case studies were significant as the changes were accomplished without additional public funds, but were much more conducive to the social and physical needs of the people they support.  The DS sector has been involved in strategic changes starting with the “DS Transformations” initiative and currently with the “Journey to Belonging” project.  As the ongoing trend is towards promoting direct funding for people supported, it will behove organizations to adapt to this change without sacrificing the quality of support they offer.  Participating in this course has been crucial in my leadership journey.”
