Today, the Ontario Government introduced A Plan to Stay Open, which includes legislation that, if passed, will make the $3 Wage Enhancement for Development Services Workers (DSWs) permanent.
DSWs in Ontario have worked tirelessly throughout the pandemic. This permanent wage enhancement recognises their work to keep individuals with developmental disabilities safe throughout a very challenging time and going forward.
OASIS applauds this investment and the support it shows for frontline developmental services in Ontario. The wage enhancement recognises the unfailing commitment of DSWs across Ontario to support and care for individuals with developmental disabilities, both throughout the challenges of the pandemic and beyond.
Today’s announcement delivers on Premier Ford’s personal commitment to make the Wage Enhancement permanent, for which we are grateful.
I want to acknowledge and sincerely thank Premier Ford, Minister Fullerton, the Ministry of Children, Community and Social Services and the Ontario Government for continuing to support our sector and the individuals and families we serve.
Making the wage enhancement permanent is a critical foundational step that demonstrates that DS staff are respected with fair compensation for the essential work they do and helps to ensure that individuals with developmental disabilities continue to benefit from excellent community supports.
OASIS looks forward to continuing our partnership with the Ontario Government as we move forward together on the long-term effort to implement sector reform, as outlined through Journey to Belonging.
