After months of searching the OASIS Board of Directors is pleased to introduce to our membership OASIS’ first CEO, Dr. Robert (Bob) Walsh.
Dr. Walsh has over twenty years of experience as Executive Director of national non-government organizations (NGOs) working at the intersection of policy, practice, research and community (principally in tobacco control, chronic disease prevention and substance misuse) and close to three decades of experience leading collaborations and organizations helping Canadians improve their personal and community’s health.
Bob has a Bachelor of Arts from York University, a Master of Business Administration from The University of Western Ontario’s Richard Ivey School of Business, a Master of Public Health from the University of Waterloo and a PhD in Public Health and Health Systems from the University of Waterloo. His doctoral thesis explored NGO leadership in healthy public policy for chronic disease prevention in Canada.
With extensive experience serving on Boards of Directors and reporting to them as CEO, Bob has developed an expert, 360° understanding of the roles of, and relationships among management, governance and stakeholders.
As a volunteer, Bob has been a corporate director in a variety of sectors including community health centres, addiction service organizations, academic health sciences hospitals, local museums as well as provincial and national associations.
Hailing from Grimsby and currently living in Ottawa, Bob is a passionate explorer, whether that be along the nearest hiking trail (or running path) or within the pages of a good book.
Bob will be at the Conference in Niagara Falls next week, where he hopes to meet as many people as possible. Over the coming weeks and months Bob will be working to connect with as many member agencies as possible to discuss and better understand your thoughts, views and concerns on the sector and where OASIS can better serve you.
Please join us in welcoming Bob to his new position! We are confident that he is the right choice to help guide OASIS over the coming years.
