OASIS strengthens and connects developmental service agencies through strategic advocacy, capacity-building, and system-wide leadership.

Qualifications
Position Overview
The Director of Communications and Engagement leads the development and execution of OASIS’s communication strategy—ensuring the stories, voices, and value of the developmental services sector are clearly heard by government, the public, and our members. This role is responsible for shaping OASIS’s public image, strengthening member connection, and amplifying the collective voice of our sector through strategic and inclusive communication practices.
This senior, non-managerial position holds significant influence across the organization, supporting message development, strategic alignment, and cross-functional leadership without formal direct reports. The Director serves as a core contributor to OASIS’s leadership team, advancing strategic priorities in close partnership with advocacy, education, and member engagement efforts.
Key Responsibilities
Strategic Communication Leadership
- Develop and implement an integrated communications strategy aligned with OASIS’s strategic plan, including internal, external, and member-facing communications.
- Manage organizational voice and brand across all channels, ensuring consistency, credibility, and accessibility.
- Lead the creation of plain language materials, policy explainers, media releases, newsletters, annual reports, and web content that support advocacy and learning goals.
Public and Government Engagement
- Craft and execute campaigns that position developmental services as essential, values-driven, and community-based.
- Support media relations, including writing op-eds, preparing spokespersons, and developing key messages.
- Develop content and communications tools that help members engage effectively with government and public audiences.
Member Communications & Engagement
- Design and maintain tools that enhance two-way communication with members, including listservs, feedback loops, and digital platforms.
- Develop member communication templates and toolkits to support collective action and public-facing campaigns.
- Use data and storytelling to build a shared narrative across a diverse membership.
Collaboration & Integration
- Partner with the Directors of Advocacy and Learning to ensure alignment across campaigns, policy work, and capacity-building initiatives.
- Provide communications support to committees, working groups, and special projects as needed.
- Coordinate message discipline and brand alignment across staff, board, and member-generated content.
Digital Strategy & Analytics
- Oversee OASIS’s website and social media presence; use analytics to monitor performance and adapt strategy.
- Identify tools and innovations that strengthen digital engagement, accessibility, and responsiveness.
Required Qualifications
- Minimum of five years’ experience in strategic communications, public relations, health communications, or advocacy-related marketing.
- Demonstrated ability to develop and lead integrated communication strategies across diverse platforms and audiences.
- Strong writing, editing, and storytelling skills, including the ability to communicate complex issues in accessible ways.
- Experience engaging public sector, nonprofit, or advocacy audiences through digital, print, and in-person strategies.
- Comfortable using CRMs, website platforms, email marketing tools, and social media management software.
- Collaborative working style with experience supporting coalitions, campaigns, or member-driven organizations.
- Commitment to inclusive language, equity-driven communications, and ethical storytelling practices.
Work Environment
- OASIS is a fully remote organization; occasional in-person meetings and travel within Ontario are required.
- Some flexibility in working hours is expected to meet communications deadlines or respond to sector developments.
- This position is designed for a proactive self-starter who enjoys building systems and creating shared meaning across a wide network.
Compensation and Benefits
- Salary Range: $72,000 – $90,000 annually
