Response to media report into housing wait lists for adults with developmental disabilities

TORONTO (November 11, 2015) — Yesterday, Global News reporter Christina Stevens inquired into housing wait lists for adults with developmental disabilities.

OASIS member agencies are poised to respond to this critical and growing need for housing solutions for adults with developmental disabilities. OASIS is currently working with the Ministry of Community and Social Services (MCSS) to develop a multi-year strategy to reduce the housing wait list for Ontario’s most vulnerable citizens.

“We are actively engaged at planning tables with MCSS, through the Provincial Housing Task Force, and locally through our member agencies, in discussing a multi-year housing strategy,” said David Barber, OASIS President. “We are hopeful that the resources they provide will meet the growing demand, and that our ability to respond will not be restricted to only helping those in crisis situations. Every family’s needs are important and it is not for us to judge who is most deserving of adequate housing solutions.”
