We are searching for a dynamic Executive Director to build upon the excellent work of the outgoing leader of Surex Community
Services and take the organization to new levels of success.


Reporting to the Board of Directors, the Executive Director is responsible for the design, implementation and execution of policies and directives of the Board of Directors; for ensuring overall good management and supervision of services and supports; and for liaison with government and other agencies. The
Executive Director shall carry out all duties of the position in a manner consistent with the vision of Surex Community Services.

Driving collaboration/partnerships across agency programs, actively advocating for Surex Community Services, the ED will assume the key role in planning and managing change consistent with the approved vision of the organization. Translating strategy into actionable plans, driving innovative approaches in
planning and support, ensuring that all policies and procedures affecting the organization are current and reflective of legislative and agency requirements.


As the primary leader of the organization as well as the key strategist, and external champion, the Executive Director of Surex Community Services will be responsible for the Agency’s organizational success and the fulfillment of its vision and potential. S/he will work closely with the Board of Directors to develop and implement a comprehensive strategic plan; ensuring that agency business and affairs are
implemented and conducted in accordance with legislative requirements, policies, procedures and programs established by the Board of Directors.

The ED will ensure that the services and supports for people who have a developmental disability are person-centered and reflect the needs of people, ensuring their care, welfare, safety and security. Through the application of the highest standards of business conduct, s/he will be responsible for the
management of all aspects of the agency’s financial affairs by ensuring the established financial planning, recording, and accountability policies and procedures are adhered to, and by providing appropriate reports, financial statements, budgets and forecasts. Developing communication strategies to ensure continuous dialogue with the appropriate groups, community organizations, and government bodies, the
ED will develop positive relationships with external stakeholders, including sector/corporate partners and donors; as well as liaise with MCSS officials to influence, educate and lobby appropriate government officials/decision makers in pursuit of the objectives of Surex Community Services.

As the organization’s ambassador, the ED will strive to strengthen the Surex Community Services brand, building its reputation and excellence in the developmental services field.


Professional Experience/ Qualifications
•A post graduate degree or diploma, preferably in Social Sciences or Administration.
•A minimum of 5-10 years of progressive management/executive leadership experience in the social services or related sectors.
•Experience in board governance and/or reporting to a Board of Directors and in the strategic planning process.
•Experience with financial management, grant writing and grant management.
•Sound understanding of risk management.

•Creative Problem Solving & Decision Making: Identifies and solves complex issues creatively to overcome internal challenges.
•Integrity: Applies a strong personal moral compass to high level strategic decision making and actions
•Leading Change: Fosters acceptance and commitment to change in others, ensuring ongoing communication strategies are in place to facilitate understanding and commitment to change.
•Organizational Awareness/Political Acuity: Recognizes underlying problems, opportunities, or external forces affecting the Ministry, e.g. current political trends, demographic changes, trade union policies, national or historical issues.
•Planning & Implementation: Develops and implements efficient work plans, being prepared for unanticipated roadblocks.
•Client/Customer Focus: Anticipates and responds to the needs of clients and their families to meet or exceed their expectations within the organizational parameters. Acts as an advocate for clients by being responsive and informed of their needs; lobbying the issues of most importance.
